Spiritual Retreat in Varanasi Journey with Sri Guru Yogam

Hello everyone, thank you for visiting our blog. As you are interested in learning about spirituality and deeper insights into life, we are happy to welcome you to Sri Guru Yogam.

At Sri Guru Yogam, we are deeply inspired to share what we have learned and experienced through the path of spirituality. Through teaching, guiding, and facilitating spiritual practices, we continue to learn and grow along with the people who join us.

In this journey of teaching, we have had the opportunity to meet many individuals and interact with various organizations through retreats, satsangs, and spiritual gatherings conducted both online and offline. Each experience has been meaningful and enriching.

It has been truly interesting to observe, learn, and understand different perspectives on spirituality, and we are delighted to share these insights with you in this article.

We conducted an 8-day spiritual session in Varanasi, where 12 students registered and participated in this program. The intention of the session was to explore deeper questions about life, the body, and the true nature of existence.

The program began with a very special experience early in the morning at around 4:30 AM. We visited the sacred Ganges River and took a dip in the holy waters. After that, we sat quietly near Manikarnika Ghat for meditation.

That place carries a deep reminder of the reality of life and death, and it naturally inspires one to reflect on the nature of existence.

During the meditation session, I asked the students to observe life carefully and reflect on a simple idea:

Existence operates in a mysterious way. It is as if life has taken an object — the body — and is experiencing the world through it for many years.

I asked them a question:

“In this body, what have you truly enjoyed? What is your body really asking for? Can you truly fulfill the demands of the body?”

The students shared different perspectives.

Some students said that the body can be fulfilled by achieving goals, success, and living a meaningful life while being content with what one has.

A few students said that the body seeks pleasures and experiences, and that enjoying life is a natural way of fulfilling it.

Others said that life must have a deeper purpose, and that we take birth in this world to accomplish something meaningful.

Each student shared thoughtful and sincere answers about the meaning of life and the purpose of the body.

After listening to them, I shared what I have understood through my own realization.

From a deeper spiritual perspective, life comes out of life itself. Existence continues through many forms and expressions.

If we ask whether life has a purpose, the answer can be yes, but that purpose exists as long as there is ego, desire, ambition, and the need for fulfillment.

As long as these tendencies remain active in the mind, the cycle of seeking and becoming continues.

According to spiritual understanding, birth continues until these tendencies completely dissolve and a person realizes their true nature — the Self, or Atman.

When one truly realizes the Self, beyond the body and mind, the cycle of repeated births comes to an end.

This reflection near the sacred river and the burning ghats became a powerful moment for the students to contemplate the deeper meaning of life, the body, and the journey toward self-realization.
